Venus Kameko (2011) This sculpture contains mixed media elements in a heart shaped tin box. Inside the box there is a letter from the artist saying, "Dear audience, I found this box in a cupboard when I moved into my flat in Tokyo. I presume this box belongs to the ex-resident. I was going to throw this box away but somehow I have not found the right moment to do so yet. This seems like a treasure box of the ex-resident and reminds me of doing the same when I was a kid. The box reflects the owner’s character, preferences and interests etc... I thought it would be an interesting subject to display at this exhibition. Please look inside this box and imagine who the owner might have been." I forged the box's contents to create a story of its owner. The name of the owner of the box is Venus Kameko. She visited Earth from Venus; for example, you see a boarding ticket from Lunar Base to Washington D.C.. She had a small figure of a U.F.O. and a business card of "M.O.T. for a spaceship." Her Japanese writing is very clumsy. These mixed media elements give clues to what kind of person she was and it starts telling a story, which contains various possibilities. |
